Changes to the Library and Computing Home Page

The search box on the Library and Computing home page now searches One Search, the JCU Library's 'discovery layer'. We've labelled it 'Start Here' so that new clients (a big welcome to our 2011 intake) will not have to ponder whether to search the catalogue, Libguides or the eJournals, pick a database or try ResearchOnline@JCU to get started on their research.

One Search uses the Summon(TM) technology to search our catalogue, our research repository, our subject guides, and about 90% of our ejournal content, about 100 million items at your fingertips courtesy of the JCU Library's print and electronic collections. One click expands this search to another 400 million items outside our collections.

In essence searching One Search is as simple as searching Google - but it provides links to full text items available through JCU subscriptions, and to print versions available via the Townsville and Cairns campus libraries. One Search's also has advanced searching functions.

These changes were made in response to the results of a number of surveys conducted by and on behalf of the University and the Library, and as part of our continuous model we will continue to conduct and monitor surveys analyse usage and actively seek your feedback and suggestions to continually improve the site.
