Professor Anna Haebich is a multi-award winning author and historian, known for her fresh approaches to Australian history and her meticulously researched and documented studies of Indigenous history. Anna is a Research Professor with Griffith University and Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences. Her next book is Murdering Stepmothers, a historical novel about the life and times of the last woman executed in Western Australia.
Abstract:
To answer these questions Anna Haebich takes us travelling back in time to the state’s early formative years. We journey together through the virtual exhibition, Becoming Queensland: the First Fifty Years, listening to amazing stories from the past, accompanied by beautiful and surprising images. Along the way we pause to conjure up the lives and times of these bygone days, ponder their lasting influences on us, and challenge a few cherished myths about how different Queensland really is. We also zoom back into the present to learn about the making of the ambitious exhibition, Becoming Queensland, created recently while Anna was Historian in Residence at the State Library of Queensland.
